http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commercial_district
A *commercial district* or *commercial zone* is any part of a city or town
in which the primary land use is
commercial<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commerce>activities (
shops <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shops>,
offices<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office>,
and so on), as opposed to a residential
neighbourhood<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Residential_neighbourhood>,
an industrial zone <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_park>, or other
types of neighbourhoods <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neighbourhood>. In
some cities, authorities use planning or
zoning<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoning>laws to define the
boundaries of commercial districts.

und
In the United Kingdom <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom>,
commercial districts that are primarily for shopping are called high
streets<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_street>.
In North America, in smaller towns and cities there is often only one main
commercial district, which is located on the main
street<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_street>
.

und
Most languages do not have a direct
cognate<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognate>for commercial district,
but will have a related term such as the French
*quartier d'affaires* ("business quarter"), or the Japanese
*shōtengai<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sh%C5%8Dtengai>
* (literally, "commerce shop street").
