Agreed, it has be useful to try the approach but the rectification
may be a challenge and it won't work near major airports etc. It was
fun to give it a try given the proximity of the flight company. I
think we should it use commercial photography already rectified where
this is available.

The cost of basic satellite photography is $14 per sq km. The US
exchange rate has moved considerably in our favour over the past four
months so this is now about £10 and the cost of the whole West
Midlands conurbation would probably be about £4-5K I seem to remember.
I have been in email communication with eMap in the states over the
past few weeks. A deduction for a charitable purchase has also been
mentioned.

As you know I am keen that we make more use of photography. If you
want to do this then make the appeal known and I will help promote it.
I would be happy to contribute £750 which would need to go via a
charitable partner which I would be happy to arrange for you (this is
me not ITO btw). My only condition would be that there was a plan
prepared to host it and make use of it. I suggest that the OSMF should
actually make the purchase and own the results unless you have a
better idea.

There is general information here:

If you are keen to progress this then say so and lets use the wiki
page to gather pledges.
