Hi everyone
The Cabinet Office and the Department of Communities and Local Govt
organised an event on Monday in Birmingham which I attended. They chose the
West Mids because they see us as doing lots of innovative things with local
datasets. The DIY BCC web site and mappa-mercia were held up as shining
exemplars. Our gritting routes and public transport routes overlays got a
lot of attention. I offered a standing invitiation to all the local
authorities there to work with us on whatever they could release - gritting
routes seemed a good starting palce. Herefordshire and the the NHS seemed
very keen so I will follow up. Warwickshire are becoming very active as well
with a local hack competition to use their data (unfortunately they some
kind of contract with a software developer to publish data on maps and the
developer won't use OSM because it's not complete). Lichfield is held up as
the leading authority in publishing opendata so perhaps we should complete
mapping the city and I suggest that our next monthly meeting is held there
(same pub as last time -I'll get the details if everyone agrees) so we can
do some more mappingan hopefully complete it
Regards
Brian
