Brian,

Thanks for the excellent update. It really helps to read what's going on
when I haven't been able to attend and the current initiatives move keeps
the midlands group ahead of the pack in terms of new ideas. Unfortunately
I'll also miss Dec 4th as I'll be in Kuala Lumpur so enjoy your Christmas
pint and I'll hope to see everyone in the new Year.

Btw, I am doing a bit of mapping, half completed Norton Canes at the
weekend. http://osm.org/go/euzWwjWQ--

Cheers

Andy

Hi everyone

Thanks to Paul Williams for suggesting the Bull on Price St - what a great
pub! Busy but quiet atmosphere, great food and ale, homely decor and wifi
that works. And being located just behind the Childrens Hospital it's not
too far from railway stations. There was only Christophe Mike and me but we
all agreed it should be our default pub meeting place from now on.

We had a great discussion about multipolygons and how to use them and their
limitations.

Mike is busy adding all the methodist churches and I'm about to add all the
heritage buildings and we'd both like to build separate maps highlighting
these so Christophe is going to deliver an hour's hands on session on
OpenLayers before the December pub meeting at the Bull on Price Street

Thanks to Andy M's introduction of the PMSA sculpture database I've been in
touch with Ian Leith the vice chairman of PMSA who is quite excited about
the possibility of us adding PMSA listed sculptures and eventually making a
rendered map of them. Firstly we have to get a sensible data representation
other than their web site listings, which I'm working on as Ian gave me the
contact details of the academic who conducted the original survey. I've
explained to Ian it's going to be a year at least before we've added enough
data. With heritage buildings, blue plaques and public sculptures we could
have a very rich cultural map of Birmingham and its environs. If we can do
this Ian reckons we can generate a lot of interest from bodies who are
responsible for this and I think he's off to explain what we're intending to
do to English Heritage.

Walsall gritting routes are now well on the way to completion and we should
probably concentrate on Wolverhampton next. perhaps Andy M could use any
contacts he has to get Sandwell's gritting routes. Dudley we can leave for a
while because we haven't completed mapping the road network yet

Aerial Imagery tracing is also nearly complete: only Newtown,Winson Green
and Harborne are left.

Christophe looks set to leave us after Xmas so we need a transition plan to
manage the mappa-mercia website. Although he has kindly offered to carry on
for a while remotely from Germany we need someone to step forward and we
need another host.

Missed you all - look forward to seeing you at the December meeting

Regards

Brian
