I had a quick google. This document:
http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/PDF/mm_tsb3_import_export_text_fil
es_FEB_2005.pdf

Implies you can export to GPX format directly from Memory-Map. You
shouldn't need gpsbabel, in that case.
