Unless you have a particular friendly pub you may have better luck with
paid-for wireless - otherwise you may have difficulty justifying the
amount of space taken up. You've also got a slightly better chance of
success (although the experience with paid wifi in Oxford wasn't great,
I admit).

Even with us buying drinks and food quite regularly, and taking up a
table for four, and using paid wifi, we were asked to move on after a
few hours of being in the Coffee Republic -- which doesn't really tell
you a lot except that you do have to find a venue which actually
understands your requirements and can be convinced it's worth it to
them.
