[Talk-GB] London Datastore, public data and OSM

Hello,

I've been starting some discussions with the people behind the London
Datastore - Emer Coleman and the GLA's GIS Manager Gareth Baker. We have
talked about making public data available for OpenStreetMap, about entering
OSM data sources in the Datastore, and collaborating where public
authorities struggle to gather information like cycle parking stands or
building accessibility.

The GLA group includes the Mayor's office and Assembly, Transport for
London, the Metropolitan Police, the Fire and Emergency Services, and the
London Development Agency. So stacks of data!

On Tuesday, we met up with Christopher Osborne from ITO, Muki Haklay from
University College London, and Harry and Shaun from OSM. I wrote a short
report here:

After the mixed success of the NAPTAN import, one thing we want to do is
develop a relationship with those data providers. This would help resolve
tensions like getting updates into OSM, or those providers using OSM to
source corrections.

The immediate next steps are:
- somebody to present OSM to a forum of London council GIS managers NEXT
FRIDAY afternoon - *CAN ANYONE OFFER TO DO THIS?*
- Harry to put together an entry for the Datastore on getting OSM data
- me, for now, to keep the lines of communication open
- anyone to pass on requests to Emer, via me, for data you'd like to see
released from the GLA Group for OSM

If anyone else has been talking to councils or other public agencies do
share!

Tom
