Mastermap is the best building level detail Ordnance Survey offer but OSM
can't use it. So Ordnance Survey Street View is best from them OSM can trace
for buildings.
I just looked at the OS Vector District tiles in QGIS ( http://www.qgis.org/ )
and found that they have added noise with often curious artifacts to the
buildings to fill in a little up to the roads often, and within blocks of
buildings . So ok for looking at lower scalesto give the built up area but not
represent reality of individual buildings (and speces) on ground at higher
scales. OS Street View seems a bit better.
I may put up some side by side screenshot examples on my blog some time,
The water features and woodlands in OS Vector District on other hand seem good
to go, comparing very well with what I know on the ground and I am for
importing them, after a little clean up, at least on tile by tile basis or
feature by feature with a little local vetting. But I notice some tiles have
some water features as per Street View and other tiles have are missing
similar ones present elsewhere.
Tide lines look pretty good, matching up well with GPS track I took of path
that followed tile line, and off shore islands and costal features look pretty
good.
I am still getting to grips with QGIS have yet to work out how to convert once
identified area I want to using Open Street Map. But I am in no great rush. I
only want to mess about with small areas of specific features I have some
direct knowleage of.
cheers,
Micah
