Fear not - that's what I spend a good percentage of my time doing as a
worker for a rights of way charity - three substantive reports a week,
consultations on all changes to the network, regular liaison meetings,
etc. The HA has authorised 'us' to deal with signage (so there is a
stapler and a bunch of waymarks in my back pack too) and we also do
minor maintenance - but sometimes it's beyond our capabilities and then
we negotiate priorities! So you see why I'm interested in PRoW aspects
of OSM - while I'm out there in the field with a GPS in my sticky little
hand I might as well put the tracks up into OSM - and I have the local
knowledge and documentary access to add some of the more 'virtual' tags
like 'designation='.
I was probably a little unfair to the HA in my last message as in fact
most (though not all) of the offending paths are not rights of way -
just forestry tracks. But where they are shown on the OS 1:25k it seems
sensible to record what happens when you try to walk them!
