As part of Osborne's statement yesterday a document titled "Further
Detail on Open Data Measures in the Autumn Statement 2011" was
released.

Of specific interest to OSM are the sections on the OS and the National
Address Gazetteer (p.11).

There are more words about the OS being "committed" to changing its
"derived data restrictions on Local Authorities' 'Public Rights of
Way' data" which is not really news. Additionally the OS has also
committed to release a set of "National Trails" in collaboration with
Natural England, by April 2013. 2013? What happened to just getting
the data out-there?

There are quite a few other tit-bits for those interested in Open Data
more generally. Particularly the creation of the Data Strategy Board
and the Public Data Group. I find it pretty disappointing that these
have been announced before we've had the report on the related
consultations that closed at the end of last month. Unsurprisingly
there is a very strong emphasis on business involvement, finishing
with "The Government will also consider the advisability of
alternative delivery models such as turning any of its member Trading
Funds into Companies Act companies."
