Only thing I would coment on is that there does seem to be a substantial shift 
between the NLS scans and OSM in this area of the country, so I would question 
the accuracy of the referencing :(

AH ... bad on England - OS One Inch, 1945-47
Subtle on the Great Britain - 1:1m - 1:63k, 1920
( Almost just drawing widths, but seems to be shifted slightly even against OS 
OpenData )

but
Great Britain - OS 1:25000, 1937-61
and
Great Britain - OS One Inch, 1955-61
are mirroring OSM nicely ...
