Oops... just noticed a somewhat inaccurate statement.Just to clarify:


"also do note that the use of client side rendering can mean that the maps can be slow to render if you haven't visited that area before. "


This isn't actually due to the client-side rendering, it's due to the process of generating the geojson from the server. Server side caching of geojson means that it's significantly quicker when you visit an area the second time.
