OK Have a working osmosis/replication setup which is currently running
an hourly sync of my 'British Isles' database.

Mapnik is being somewhat less helpful, but since ideally I want an nginx
based server, https://github.com/osmfj/tileman may be a better starting
point anyway. That has not seen much activity this year though, so is it
still being used on the osm.jp?
