[Oops, I previously sent a message from a wrong e-mail address.]
Please retain backwards compatibility when using new tags. I.e. keep the
amenity=school tag and add tags to it to clarify.
RE: shared sites
Are there examples of this where it can't be divided? A know infant and
juniors are often different parts of a building/site, but they usually have
their own reception and playground, even if that's difficult to tell from
aerial imagery if you can't see fences/walls. The infants maybe use the
juniors sports pitch at times. County Durham has actually closed a lot of
schools in the last ~5 years and opened half as many, to make Infant +
Junior schools into Primary schools.
RE: multisites / cross-sites
This would be very good, I'm surprised nothing exists (it's not just
schools). Remember amenity=school should still exist on each site because I
still want directions to say "go past the school on the right". But a
school-specific system could say "Littletown College's main
campus/reception is [here] and it has other sites [here] and [here]".
Oh, multi sites can be done with relations:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relations/Proposed/Site
I struggled to read that as it's partially to group objects on a site, but
it can be used for the flip side of grouping sites across a city.
E.g. Stuttgart University: http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5294212
