As it happens the Phase 2b shape files are available. Just rather buried
under an obscure filename.

I'll post again once I've made the route updates for 2b (Manchester & Leeds)

Cheers

Subject: HS2 phase 2a preferred route

Folks,

I've just added the Jan 2016 preferred route alignment for HS2 phase 2a
(West Midlands to Crewe) along with the associated tags, converted from the
data.gov OGL shapefile to OSM format as per previous HS2 additions I've
undertaken. All ways are also added into a single relation for ease of
reference/selection.

The upload sits in one changeset
https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/44037689

The uploaded data basically duplicates the consultation alignment (with a
very slight few meter offset) that was uploaded as the Phase 2 consultation
alignment in 2014. Once the OGL shapefiles are available for the now
preferred phase 2b (Crewe to Manchester & West Midlands to Leeds) I would
propose to remove the original Phase 2 2014 data from OSM so that the data
properly reflects Governments now preferred routes and the proper
distinction between the three main phases of the proposed HS2 (Phase 1,
Phase 2a & Phase 2b -West and East). This will also eliminate the apparent
current data duplication over the Phase 2a portion between the West Midlands
and Crewe.

The only data that appears to be missing in the Jan 2016 Phase 2a shapefile
is the proposed HS2 linespeed. I could copy the linespeed data from the
Phase 2 consultation version though I do not know if it would be entirely
correct. For now I'll ignore as it can always be added from a suitable
source later.

Any comments please add them in the changeset comments.

In other rail related updates I made new road layout final changes at Norton
Bridge WCML upgrades near Eccleshall at the weekend. All works are now
complete there.
Also for those near Peterborough the new rail diveunder at Werrington has
just stared detailed design with the contractor now on board for
construction.

Cheers
Andy
