[Talk-GB] Fire brigade and other emergency routes

Currently, in the Netherlands, we (three volunteers of the Dutch community) are working on standardizing emergency services on OSM and running a series of workshops. Fire brigades and ambulances are using Openstreetmap data for navigation to fires. We have quite a number of firemen and women contributing as well.
Especially with nature fires routing is not always as obvious as just driving down a road or path. They have also locations where they are allowed to cross a meadow to quickly reach a certain point in a nature reserve. It is tempting to use the tag highway=virtual, but is not by every mapper regarded desirable. We're looking to find a compromise on this one.
Two keys/tags that are oftentimes used are fire_path=yes (to indicate that specific fire trucks can use certain paths) and emergency=yes, along with some other specifics.
The software builder will adapt (new or different) tags, at least one brigade is in good contact with the developers as far as I know.
We were wondering: how is OSM Great Britain co-operating with emergency services? Is there a way of tapping into your resources?
Thanks!
Luciën
