That's how the list is set up.  It's a fairly standard configuration. 
It tends to fail safe, rather than sending private contents to the whole 
list.

It is possible that gmail does not support the List-Post header, but 
that is not the default reply destination, at least in Thunderbird; you 
still have to explicitly select Reply to List.

Some lists add Reply-To with the list address, but that is 
controversial.  Some people think everyone should do it; others think it 
is a very bad idea.
