Thanks for engaging in a constructive discussion - we may have different
opinions on some things, but together we make a better map.

You made an interesting point that we need to represent the ground-truth
of where trees are, as well as the ideas of why they are there
(wood|forest|*), and how they are managed / named.

Andy T's (SomeoneElse) mention of micro-mapping addresses makes me think
of individual building=residential brought together into
landuse=residential, and relations to give a hierarchy of estates,
towns, etc.

Sketching an arboreal equivalent...
	natural=tree	(specimens only - unless _really_ keen!)
	landuse=forest	(possibly include natural=wood?)
			(manmade=cutline if unmapped and linear?)
	landuse=forestry
	relation type=site ???
	relation type=???

Any thoughts?

landuse=forestry is attractive as it covers a lot of lifecycle and
naming ideas. As the SomeoneElse-style example shows, rendering it looks
better than attempting to fill in all the gaps with grass|heath|meadow|*
and as an outer boundary can be used for naming.

Existing relation types don't seen to fit well, and my knowledge of how
landowners manage production areas is limited to walking / cycling past.

Your link to Forestry England is interesting, and although I can't find
it today, a previous search to check Simonside car park clear-felling
brought up OSM data based ironically on my previous visit!

All the best, and happy mapping,

James
