Making the map "easier to edit by new mappers" is a goal that pretty 
much everyone shares, though I'm not convinced that new mappers are put 
off by the internal names used for tags - initially at least they'll 
pick from a list that their editor suggests for a feature (and all 
current mainstream editors do a pretty good job of this).

The actual name used for trees/managed forest etc. has been discussed at 
length on the tagging list and elsewhere in the past, resulting in the 
6(!) approaches described at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Forest .
