I think it is wrong to equate approval and rendering.  Approval of tags 
seems to be fuzzy, but to the extent one can say that tags are approved, 
the standard rendering does not render a large number of them.  On the 
other hand, niche renderers may render tags where the renderer is proof 
of concept, or where the tag is sufficiently niche that it hasn't 
received general discussion.

You may well find that the standard renderer recognizes tags that are 
not approved by anyone except the maintainers of the standard rendering.
