This isn't really a topic I follow much, but this may be an interesting
view into what (none OSM) walkers want, it's fairly popular here.

WightPaths [1] have the choice of 3 maps [2].

OS OpenMap - Local + (Official) Rights of Way data rendered on top.
OSM Catro (2020-07-27) + (OSM 2020-07-27) Rights of Way data rendered
on top.
OSM Catro (Live)

The Rights of Way are rendered incredibly boldly, even being more
visible than roads.
