Though balancing pond would be appropriate.

The dictionary definition of swale is a bit generic “a low or hollow place, especially a marshy depression between ridges.”

Mark’s suggestion of the basin tag might be the way to go for some of these features. These swales are mostly infiltration devices, though they obviously also retain water for a while when it rains. Many are just grassy depressions much of the time and only fill with any water during rain. Depending on the ground conditions the water will either infiltrate the ground quickly or slowly. Where it’s the latter the swale becomes boggy (or its deliberately seeded with reeds etc). For these that retain some water all year around then a retention tag would be logical and if it maintains vegetation and some water then they truly have become wetland features.

Cheers

Andy

Not balancing tanks, no as they are usually buried retention systems. . But Swales are also called Detention Basins
