The UK laws derive from the EU laws so are in a state of flux at the 
moment.  I presume the Brexit legislation duplicated them into English 
law, but it is anyone's guess as to whether or not the UK will continue 
to honour EU ones, although I can't think of a reason why they wouldn't 
as it would work both ways.

(I think the French term is Appellation d'origine contrôlée, often 
shortened to Appellation contrôlée
