The platform numbers refer to how the train services use the physical 
platforms. The numbers can change in response to changes in the train 
service pattern or the track layout.

The physical platform has an historic name such as Up Platform, Down 
Platform, Bay Platform South, Island Platform West, Parcels Dock, etc.

Such names are used for property records and infrastructure maintenance, 
although not usually displayed to the public.
