In Tasmania these are called 'animal pads' or 'pads' for short.

They are easily taken for seldom used paths that have over grown 
sections, the pads typically lead the walker astray. On the other hand 
they can be better than the overgrown path!


Typical animals that form these pad are wombats (these can lead into 
very thick scrub that is virtually impenetrable for humans - wombats 
simply put their head down and bulldoze through at their smaller 
height), pademelons, and wallabies. The wallabies, being the largest 
animal, make the better pads for humans. I have not seen any from other 
animals down there, probably too indistinct for me to pick out.

Could be nice to have a tag for these as both information and warning.
