Hi all,

Thanks for testing the UK Address mapping tool. I can confirm that the
biggest issue (questions not coming up when you add an address point) is
now resolved.

To answer some of the other points raised:

1. An alternate question approach proposed would require checking if the
name is a Street Name or a Place Name by looking at surrounding OSM data.
I can see the value in this however it would be quite a significant change
to the mechanics of how the tool works. It would also require the tool to
pull more data in and process through it which could be problematic given
that it is already a tad on the slow side as is. We're therefore not going
to take this idea forward but don't let that stop anyone else from having a
go (MapComplete is all open code on GitHub).

2. Auto capitalise each word.
Could be done (with some effort) but I'm not aware of any OSM editing
software that does this for certain tags already. A bit concerned that
there may be edge cases where it is not appropriate.

3. Show addr:city and addr:postcode on the envelope if it is in the OSM
data.
Split mind on this one. The tool is intentionally not asking users to
contribute these so it could frustrate some users if they see city and
postcode on some addresses but have no way to edit or add them to other
addresses. The main aim of the tool is to help collect data that requires a
ground survey. Postcode and city could be added via other means at a later
stage.

4. Support Bing imagery layer
There is an open ticket for this:
https://github.com/pietervdvn/MapComplete/issues/648 Looks like some help
is required (e.g. getting an API key).

5. The tool is not picking up street names from associatedStreet relations
Correct. And given that the usage is low and dropping (now less that 5% of
cases use this globally) I am struggling to see the value of adding this to
what is designed to be a simple tool for newcomers.

6. Multiple / range of numbers, interpolation etc
Again all of this would turn a simple editor into a complex one, which is
not the aim here. The aim is to get a big crowd of mappers to help us with
the ground survey effort. In the majority of cases, this will be
number+street so a simple editor is fine. Where a range has been put in,
another mapper is free to follow on afterwards to add interpolation rules
etc should they see the need.

I hope the above helps and gives a clear indication of the aim of the tool
- i.e. to get ground survey data that gets us closer to the 27 million
(residential) addresses in the UK.

Thank you,
*Rob*
