Evening all,
I think the addressing of flats might just be too complicated for one
standard schema. Is this maybe where addr:full comes into play?
Just to add a few more edge cases for Scottish tenements. Many are known by
the council as something like 10 3f2 The Street (meaning second flat on the
third floor at number 10), but (assuming 2 flats per floor and the ground
floor have separate front doors 8 & 12) then the Post Office will call this
10/6 (the sixth flat in the stair). However, I also lived in a tenement in
Glasgow, where the postal address was like "3/1 123 The Street; Glasgow; G1
23AB", although the council called that 123 3f1. I have also heard of some
tenements being listed as 3L and 3R (ie left and right) but don't think
this is at all common.
I have so far generally avoided tagging flats in tenements, but for other
buildings I would use addr:flats=1-6 or addr:flats=A-F depending on what is
on the door. I also do not like the idea of tagging these with the word
flat or whatever. I would like to think something addressed to "Flat 1; 123
The Street", would end up at "Apartment 1; 123 The Street", regardless of
the naming. Indeed my friends who used to live in "Loft 3" only used the
numeric form of 123/3 The Street.
Cheers, Donald
