I mainly cycle, and for planning use Komoot with the OSM cycle layer as 
the main tool among many. Strava BTW does so much of their own stuff 
that the underlying OSM data could better be described as ABused.


OSM cycle is actually decent for planning hikes too - partly that's 
familiarity I guess.


But the best render I've used for hiking is the Elevate theme from 
OpenAndroMaps 
https://www.openandromaps.org/en/legend/elevate-mountain-hike-theme 
which my bike computer app uses via MapsForge. I use the hiking theme 
even for cycling, rather than swapping.
