[Talk-GB] MapRoulette challenge to connect isolated highways

Hi Rob,

Glad to hear you're looking forward to the missing highway challenge! I will share it tomorrow (Friday) sometime in the afternoon. Note that we will start with a sample of missing highways to give you an idea of the type of leads and give you the chance to share feedback. But we have more data that we can add to the challenge later on.

Regarding the false positives-the challenge will contain less of these compared to a challenge created in a fully automated way. But, false positives can still occur in the sense that a user might think a lead should not be added based on local knowledge or personal preferences. In cases like this, you can mark the task as "not an issue". We can analyze these cases and any feedback we receive so we can improve our challenges as needed in the future.

Sounds good to me - should have no false positives then unlike machine learning / image recognition approaches. I look forward to seeing the MapRoulette task set up. Any idea when this might be? Entirely selfish question as I want to make sure I am free when it happens otherwise I might not get a chance to participate given how quickly the last task was completed!! :-)

We identified the missing highway leads by spatially comparing TomTom's in-house road centerlines with the OSM road network, and validating the results using the available imagery sources. We did not make use of machine learning or image recognition.

Sure. No harm in having a look at these. Based on experience there are a lot of false negatives in this sort of exercise but we can take a look :-)

It would be useful if you could describe where the data has come from. For example is it from machine learning / image recognition or from GPS trace data?
