Hello!
I noticed that there's been a bit of a mapping war in the last year or so
regarding the status of the
'A8(M)' near Baillieston, Glasgow.
While I am not particularly familiar with the area, I looked through the
way history (https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/412543014 for reference) and
found that there'd been a bunch of edits with some users removing the
numbering from the A8(M) (one even went as far to remove the motorway
status from it) and others who kept on adding the numbering back to the
short motorway.
In my personal opinion, I think the numbering's been discarded as shown by
this bit of Bing Streetside imagery (
https://www.bing.com/maps?cp=55.852734%7E-4.09686&lvl=17.0&v=2&sV=1&style=x&dir=93.3&pi=-6.7)
which refers to it as a spur of the M8 and the entrance onto the spur from
the big roundabout just says A8, which is further reinforced by a counting
reference on the DfT's website (
https://roadtraffic.dft.gov.uk/manualcountpoints/91185) referring to it as
just the A8, but I'd say the appropriate tagging for this would be ref=M8
and highway_authority_ref=A8 or something.
I decided to post this here as a way to see what everyone thinks of the
situation before any action is taken upon it.
Kind regards,
yasslay
