Hello all,
I know that this is quite a busy time for Greece but we do not want to go into politics.
For quite a long time we have been used to marking National Roads in red, Motorroads in green and (since 2013) Provincial Roads in orange, according to http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Highway:International_equivalence&oldid=1155778 <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Highway:International_equivalence&oldid=1155778> (Scroll to Greece), with as little exceptions as possible (e.g. Hydra, where the cars are banned).
A user called JayCBR has, since late-March, been changing the classifications in the Peloponnese and the North to reflect the quality of the road instead of the legal status of the road, but I am extremely concerned whether anyone in the country wants such a system. He even changes the guidelines at http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Highway:International_equivalence <http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Template:Highway:International_equivalence> but his reclassification does not seem to reflect that as well. I already raised the issue with the Data Working Group over the problem and they are looking into it, but I feel that there is not enough interested people to resolve the issue.
I need more people, regardless of ethnicity, to input on the matter in English and Greek. I edit OSM in Greece because I been there and OSM is my strongest connection to such a nice country. We do not want to have to police the map just because someone disagrees with the current system but at the same time I am reluctant to revert at such a large scale as to cause instability in the map. I also raised this issue at http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=30353 <http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=30353>.
I hope to go back to Greece again, but I am ill at present. Best wishes,
Antje (Amaroussi)
