Greetings all geodata colleagues in Greece. As a parallel project to my ToposText app, I have spent a few happy months mapping modern commemorative statues, busts, and war memorials in Greece to Wikidata, with coordinates generally copy-pasted-truncated from Google Maps satellite view. Much of the statue info I have pulled [with permission] from existing sites, particularly http://www.athenssculptures.com/ and odosell.blogspot.com

I believe that these memorials are a crucial historical record, and a powerful analytical tool for history and society as well as art history, and that linked open data is a tool for preserving them from neglect, vandalism, and eventual oblivion.

I have IDed many of the sculptors, where necessary creating Wikidata items for them, and a good percentage of the people commemorated (but modern Greek historians should create the necessary Wikidata items where they are missing.

I have found OSM very helpful in finding or identifying memorials, but many others could usefully be added, or where they exist already, better identified in Greek and English, and linked to their new Wikidata ID.

Is there anyone out there with the OSM batch skills to take this on?

The link here is a Wikidata query service query that will pull up most of the work I have done, for download and manipulation as required.

Obviously, I would be delighted if others among you will take on the mapping of your own local monuments to Wikidata [and ideally Wiki Commons] as well as OSM. I’m delighted to help on that (I use QuickStatements adequately, but am not a computer scientist or anything near one.).
