Hi,

Interesting find! And truly a pretty impressive undertaking. Mapping
all the townlands in a county is hard, to go to the next level and add
fields as well! And then to go even further and add in lots of
metadata about the fields (names/owners/natural features), is
certainly a very impressive feat!

If you zoom in very carefully, you can see their townland borders
don't quite match OSM's so it's not using OSM data for townlands. We
only have a third of Meath covered anyway. Since they are only
displaying their data on top of OSM, there is no licence issues.

How they created it makes for interesting reading[1], they have mapped
the townlands and fields from scratch from their own copies of the old
maps:

I wonder what was wrong with the OSi data?

They then contracted Mallon Technologies to trace their old maps to
get the vector townlands, and that was done in 1-2 months. Not bad!

Nevertheless, we should definitely contact them and tell them about
OSM, what we're doing, and see if they would be interested in sharing
their data. Likewise Mallon Technologies. I can do that.

Rory
