The GPS traces are very raw data. They are just a collection of
points, and usually, a large collection of points. To create OSM
information (such as road structure) one needs to see these raw traces
in a larger context.
You can use an aerial photography source as a reference to get this
larger context. The trouble with that in India, however, is that the
legally viable sources like Yahoo Maps, are not detailed enough for
this region
You could use OSM data itself as a reference.. but if your area has
not been previously covered, you are in a chicken and egg situation.
You will need to start with some assumptions and then build over it.
Atleast, that is what I am doing. Experts, please correct me if I am mistaken.
