[Talk-in] Tagging mains and crosses

Does this list have an opinion on how mains and crosses are to be named?

I'm editing the JP Nagar area and noticed many roads are named 1 Main, 2
Main, 3 Main, etc. Signboards on the ground read 1st Main, 2nd Main, 3rd
Main, etc. This is also how they are referred to in spoken communication,
and is the convention on Google Maps.

FWIW, many other roads on OSM follow the 1st, 2nd, 3rd convention. Just
wondering why one may be preferred over the other.
