It just so happens that rendering is something I am very interested in 
:). A problem here is that different tagging schemata are used in 
different regions. I am in contact with Roland Olbricht who did a lot of 
work on public transport in OSM in general. Our plan is to look at the 
tags in use today and make our tools all support the same, simple set of 
tags. This should motivate others to tag consistently across many 
different regions and countries. A rendering tool developed say in 
Australia will then be able to show routes in Italy or the US nicely. 
The goal is still far away but we are working on it. As you know, I am 
very familiar with the routes in Torino as I mapped several of them. I 
absolutely want to make sure that very good, fully automatic rendering 
comes to Torino.
