a new tool is now available in spatialite-tools: spatialite_osm_overpass

it's a self-standing web client fully based on the OSM Overpass API [1]
and is intended to selectively query OSM datasets contained within a BBOX

the OSM-XML response returned by the OSM Overpass server will be
immediately parsed and then stored into a spatialite DB-file

client-server interactions are automatically handled by applying a
"vector tiled" strategy, so to minimize both processing time on
the server side and memory requirements on the client side.

several alternative operational modes are supported:
- RAW: the OSM-XML dataset will be directly translated into several
  DB tables carefully preserving all <node>, <way>, <relation>,
  <tag>, <nd> and <member> items and fully maintaining their mutual
  relationships.
- MAP: many distinct "well known" map layers (aka db tables) will
  be created.
- ROAD or RAIL: just a road (or railway) network will be created
  ignoring any other information.
