Hello,

I took the bus to Gwangju last week. I have added a new exit from highway
12 into Gwangju, and tidied up some other interchanges. It surprised me
to see that a new road had been built so close to an old road which had a
similar capacity.

Just west of Namwon I noticed a significant amount of construction work.
I checked on Yahoo! aerials and there is a huge interchange being built.
I did some more research and discovered the Gwangjang-Jeonju highway
project.

I have traced the pieces of the highway that can be see on Yahoo! If you
look at the map now you will see a dotted blue line showing the route of
the new highway. It is apparently 117.5km long. I can barely comprehend
the scale of this project. There are so many bridges and tunnels!

There will be some errors in my mapping, as I am copying from Yahoo!
aerials. Also, I have not added the tunnels. I may do them later. I
have tried to mark nodes for each end of the bridges I can see, but many
of them don't exist- in the photos there are support piers, but no bridges
yet.

I am curious about how old the Yahoo! images are. Daum shows a little
more progress in the photos in some places, but not all.

Incidentally, highway 12 has a lot of work happening either side of it too.

Seasons greetings to all,

Andrew
