Hi Robert (and everyone),
I have started doing this for Highway 12. It passes close to Geochang
and I have taken several bus trips east and west. My GPS traces are not
that great, but they are helpful when 'tidying' the Ways.
If there is a major difference between my traces and the OSM data I will
look at the Yahoo! aerials to decide 'who is right'. So far I have
reworked many of the interchanges from here to Daegu, and some from here
to Sunchang. Like you, I have deleted duplicate ways and joined nodes
together so that the data is routable. I have also added a couple of
motorway services.
I haven't uploaded my GPS tracks around my town as there are too many of
them and the result may be too crowded. I will follow your suggestion and
upload some of them, and the ones for long trips, as there are fewer of
them.
Have you tried CloudMade for routing? The data is updated once a week.
You can click on a start and end point, and you should see the route you
were expecting. If not, maybe there is an unconnected node somewhere.
Finally, I have been using OpenStreetBugs[1] to make notes of errors that
I see. I use this to remind myself of things to do, and also to draw
attention to problems for local mappers to look at.
Best wishes,
Andrew
