[Talk-ko] Using the map

Hi! Mappers may have seen my edits around the country. (alimamo)
For a while now, I have been roaming the country, virtually, and joining
roads, fixing up connections, and adding the occasional bridge. All with the
sole purpose of making the map more route-able.
Another routing service is http://www.yournavigation.org/
I have been using http://keepright.ipax.at/ and mostly checking the "almost
junctions". Because of what I have seen around the map, I'd like to offer a
few suggestions:
If you trace from Yahoo imagery it is helpful to add the 'source:Yahoo' tag.
That way other mappers will know if they need to check the data against
possible GPS traces. Additionally, because it is just traced from Yahoo, it
is a good idea to add the 'review:no' tag. Eventually after someone checks
the road by walking/riding/driving with a GPS, they can make any necessary
adjustments and remove the 'review:no' tag.
If you add ways/roads to the map, try to connect them to something. Having a
road in the middle of some blank area really doesn't help anyone who may be
looking how to get there. Even if you are not sure about a connection, just
use Yahoo imagery or make a 'best guess' and connect your road to the rest
of the map. Again, eventually you or someone else will make any necessary
corrections.
Also, yes I know everyone makes mistakes or forgets little things (even me),
but try not to leave untagged ways on the map. If you use JOSM, use the
Validator plugin before you upload the data. If you do add untagged ways to
the database (for survey purposes or because you plan on finishing later, it
is best to add a 'note' tag explaining the purpose of that way.
And finally, maybe this is only important in Daejeon, but just to let people
know. The Korean government is now pushing the new address format (house
number and street name). Or at least they are informing people that it does
exist. Because of that, here in Daejeon they have changed a LOT of the
street names, both large and small streets. Any street names currently on
the map in Daejeon should be checked, eventually.
Thanks for listening and safe mapping.
Robert
