In case anyone else didn't know TIGER:
(from the OSM Wiki page:)

The Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing system
(TIGER) data for US streets, produced by the US Census Bureau, is a
public domain data source which we are planning to import into OSM.
Obviously this will be a great starting point for mapping streets of the
United States.
