Amrit, this sounds great.
Sounds like you have already already gotten started editing, but if you
wanted more information getting started, the OSM wiki has great resources:

If you have specific questions, we could answer them over the list as well.
In terms of a project within openstreetmap that has definitive objective /
timeline, etc., how about making a rich map inside OSM in a certain area?
If you look at
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=27.6213&lon=85.5402&zoom=14&layers=Myou'll
see the are around KU / Dhulikhel / Banepa is quite weak. How about
making a project something like mapping accurate maps on OpenStreetMaps,
including buildings, streets and all the shops within 1 km of the Kathmandu
University campus? I think that could be a really really valuable project
for Nepal's free maps, and could be a contained project for a final project?

If that doesn't suit, I would be really happy to talk on skype to talk
about a couple of other possible possibilities around OSM work that we can
talk through, if you can manage to skype with me (I am in New York time).
