Hi Rajeev,

It is a US based foundation, they've supported other organizations
however that have been US based that have done work that have been
very helpful to others abroad.  Public Labs(1) is an example. Perhaps
organizations from the US are more likely to apply because Knight is
more famous there, I'm not sure.

MapBox has been working to help people get started in OpenStreetMap
all over the world for a while now as well.
