[OSM-np] Mapping Remote Nepal Campaign

NAXA, a location based service provider company in Nepal has been selected
as a technical partner for mapping of local trails and infrastructures in
Bajhang and Bajura districts under the Emergency Preparedness and Response
(EPR) Program that WFP Nepal is implementing with the support of the
Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).

The project is titled as “Trails and Infrastructure Mapping in Bajhang and
Bajura Districts of Sudurpaschim Province” and will be carried out within
the period of 8 months. Bajhang and Bajura are among the remote and
under-developed districts in Sudurpaschim Province of Nepal. These
districts are also extremely vulnerable to landslides, have higher
unemployment rates, low literacy rates, low agricultural productivity and
poor rural infrastructure.

The first activity under this project involves remote mapping of roads,
buildings, forests, rivers and land-use in both Bajhang and Bajura
districts while the final output of this project will be a Palikawise
geodatabase for all Palikas of both districts. This project will mainly
focus on the trails being used as major supply chain routes along with
available critical infrastructures in both districts.

In 2019, NAXA implemented a similar mapping activity in Humla. 25 locals
were oriented and trained on the use of digital tools for mapping and data
collection and 10 locals were mobilized for a total of 67 days to capture
data along 675 km of major trails in Humla.

NAXA is leading the Mapping Initiative and is partnering with YouthMapper
chapters from Nepal to engage youths from different backgrounds. We are
organizing an orientation session next Sunday - 2nd  August. The
orientation session will be followed by a series of technical training and
