I'm thinking of ways to properly move the points to the approximate
location, here's the plan (warning GIS terms below):

Using the SRTM DEM, calculate morphometric features: peaks, ridges,
passes, channels, pits and planes.  Overlay this map in JOSM via wms
plugin.  Move points to the calculated peak.

I don't know how long this should take me though.  In the absence of
mapped trails, I think mountain peaks are excellent navigation aids
for hikers.  Although one thing I've learned working with local upland
farmers and indigenous communities, the name on the topographic map
(which was the primary source of the GNS) is not necessarily the same
as what the locals call them.
