Hi,
The Quickbird images are now available as a map background for OSM
tracing in some parts of Pangasinan!
The boundingbox below shows the approximate extent covered by the images:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/?minlon=120.331&minlat=15.9464&maxlon=120.602&maxlat=16.2202&box=yes
The images are a mixture of various QB images from 2006-2009. We used
the default projection of the images so some areas may need manual
adjustment.
Here's some tips on how to use the imagery.
In potlatch:
1. Select a desired area within the bounding box above. Zoom in at
level 14 or higher (up to level 19). Select the edit tab.
2. The Quickbird images should be displayed by default instead of
Yahoo. If the images are not visible, select "Open options dialog"
(Checkmark Icon). Add this url to the "Custom" map background:
http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~gravitystorm/imagery/philippines/!/!/!.png
3. If the map does not match with the roads, activate the show GPS
trace (G). This should show uploaded GPS traces. You can drag the
background image to align with the GPS traces by holding the
"Spacebar" key and dragging with the mouse.
4. edit, edit, edit.
In JOSM,
1. Get the the "Slippy Map" plugin. Preference >> Plugins. Restart JOSM.
2. Add this URL in the Slippy Map Plugin configuration:
http://dev.openstreetmap.org/~gravitystorm/imagery/philippines/
You can set the maximum level to 19. Restart JOSM
3. The slippy map layer should be activated when you download some
data within the boundingbox above.
I can't find any easy way to manually drag the background to align
with gps or osm data. The "drag WMS background" doesn't work for
Slippy Map images. A workaround would be:
1. Trace the images in a separate OSM data layer (layer 1).
2. Download OSM data and GPS traces in another layer (layer 2).
3. Select all data in layer 1 and drag them to match/align with layer 2.
4. Combine both layers. Edit duplicates, errors, etc.
In Merkaartor, I have no idea :). Perhaps Merkaartor users can provide tips.
Please help in the preliminary tracing. We can then look for
Pangasinan volunteers to add names and other POIs.
Big thanks to Andy of the famous OpenCycleMap for helping us.
