I'm never quite sure how I should be doing beaches [being a bit of an accidental island specialist .. :-)]

It seems fairly logical to join the seaward edge of the beach to the coastline. Is that OK? Does it play well with the 'shapefiles' whatever they might be ...

On the other hand I have some misgivings about it, because its a hassle to un-glue the beach edge and the coastline when you need to edit/move the beach.
