[talk-ph] cost of GPS data loggers

Hi all,

I'm using a AGL3080 for some time now. It's just a stand alone sirf III data logger. it connects to a usb port as memory stick, so no drivers needed. The log files contain the raw nmea data.

Price : 70 USD (I bought it as a sample directly from the manufacturer, but retail price is in fact the same on ebay for instance...)

Logging and saving POIs is great once you reflash the static firmware.

One problem is the battery live : a few hours from 3 regular AAA batteries, and less from rechargeable NiMh.
So bring spare batteries...

I had the battery casing replaced with a Li-Ion battery with its own charging circuit by an electronics technician. This is not very easy though... (Li-Ion batteries CAN explode if not used properly! Also you need to destroy the inside of the casing tofit the square battery.)
I can use it up to 8 hours now before recharging. (And nothing exploded so far :-)

Regards,

Totor
