I believe all you have to do is make sure that the camera time and date is set accurately and you can use the captured time and date of the photo to associate it with the GPX file.

The camera is not so good (wasn't really expecting it to be in fact), so it would only be good for shots in daylight, and when the detail wasn't imperative. Battery life might be an issue, so you'd need to pack an external power source or have a method of recharging. But yes, its still working as advertised, and does anything Android will let it do. 

Finding one app to do everything would be tricky, so it might be a bit fiddly switching between mapping and photo app.
