Dear Paul,
Lots of Qs. Replies inline.
(I also cc'ed the osm-ph mailinglist)
The free osm garmin map I provide, came out of my hobby of creating
maps for my personal gps.
That is why it is linked to my personal wikispaces site.
We have plans to integrate the links to the openstreetmap.org.ph site soon.

I don't use iGo8, but most GPS receivers should have a feature to save
POIs. If you want to contribute
data to OSM-PH, you do your edits through the editing feature of
http://openstreetmap.org

I do not have an exact metric to give you but as of previous month, we
have around 105,000 kilometers of roads in OSM.
Some posts on comparing rg and osm-ph below:

A good book about OSM here:

If you have specific questions on editing OSm data I suggest you got
the the OSM PH mailinglist.
Some of the things we edit are specific to Philippine situations.

The gmapsupp.img file created through Mapsource includes streetname search.
The gmapsupp.img direct download doesn't

Yes.

It is currently using Google's API, but the data is OSM.
